REGISTRATION FOR STUDENTS: Please be aware that student copies of the Prospector Course Guide for 2012-2013 will be available online after January 20. A hard copy of the prospector will no longer be distributed to Heritage students. Students can view copies of the course guide on our website. Students and parents - please plan accordingly and be familiar with the course offerings prior to the start of registration.
INTENT TO RENEW: If you live out of district (i.e., Highlands Ranch, Denver, Englewood, Jefferson County, etc.), you need to submit an Intent to Renew form to let us know whether or not you intend on returning to Heritage for the 2012-13 school year. This form can be found on our website under the “General” tab, then “School Forms”. If you have not already done so, please turn this form in to Ms. Ollada in the Counseling Office by the January 30, 2012 deadline!
ART SHOW- ART SHOW -ART SHOW: The annual LPS Secondary Art Show is on display at Bemis Library (lower level). The show runs from January 9th-23rd. Parents, teachers, administrators, students and all other art lovers are invited to attend the closing reception on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: The Littleton Rotary is looking for students interested in global issues and building a strong portfolio for college and future careers to attend the World Affairs Seminar on Global Communication. This program will take place June 16-22, 2012 at Carroll University in Wisconsin. See Mrs. Stewart in the Counseling Office for more information.
EXPLORE TEST: Freshmen interested in getting practice for the ACT can take the EXPLORE Test on Saturday, January 21st. Get your name on the list by contacting Ms. Ollada in the Counseling Office. Space is limited, so sign up soon. For more details go to the Heritage website or see Ms. Lawson.
LIBRARY NEWS:
• All HHS Library fines totaling $3.00 or more have been placed in the student’s IC account, and now must be paid in the Main Office to our Bookkeeper Ms. Schreiberg.
• With the new Follett/ Destiny Library system installed 1/3/2012,all students who wish to challenge their library fines must do so BEFORE Friday, March 2, 2012.
STRATEGIC GAMING CLUB meets on Tuesdays in room 304 from 2:25-3:25 p.m. Come join us for chess, collectible card games and more, anything that engages your brain. Bring your own deck or game, or join in with others. Learn something new! Everyone is welcome. See Mrs. Phipps if you need more information.
SWIM WAIVER TEST: The Swim Waiver Test will be given after school on Thursday, January 19th. Any student who wishes to take the test must sign up with Ms. Rossing or Mrs. Lee by Wednesday, January 18th. Any Junior that has not taken swimming should consider the swim waiver test now, or sign up for swimming in either summer school or their senior year. Please try to take your swimming requirement before your senior year.
SWIM WAIVER TEST
1. Students must show proficiency in four of the five basic swimming strokes.
A. Front Crawl
B. Back Crawl
C. Elementary Backstroke
D. Breaststroke
E. Sidestroke
2. Students must be able to swim 500 yards (20 lengths) non-stop using any combination of the
strokes listed above.
3. Students must be able to jump in the deep tank and tread water for two minutes without hands
and five minutes with hands. Students must be able to survival float/back float for 8 additional
minutes. (This is a 15 minute continuous deep water survival skill test.)
4. Students must be able to show a proficient dive into the deep water.
ATTENTION PARENTS: There is a Joint PTO/Accountability Meeting Tuesday, January 17, at 6 p.m. in the HHS Library. Superintendent Scott Murphy will be our special guest, and all parents are invited to attend.
