SCHOLARSHIP NOTIFICATION: Attention seniors who have received any scholarships: Even if you do not plan on attending the college or university offering the scholarship, please bring a copy of the letter of verification to Ms. Ollada in the counseling office by April 29. The school district keeps track of all offers of scholarship money and it also allows us to recognize you at the Senior Awards Program if you’ve received a scholarship to the college you will ultimately be attending. We will also announce any special outside scholarships you’ve been awarded (Littleton Elks Club; AT&T Foundation, etc.).

THE 5TH ANNUAL DODGEBALL CLASSIC IS BACK!!!!!
The Date: Thursday, May 5th
The Place: Heritage High School Main Gym
The Time: 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Last year we had 18 teams compete for the title of “Who Was the Best Dodgeball Team” and
in the end, the Thunder Horses answered that question. Can they repeat or is there another team out there who can take their crown? So get a team together of 6 which must consist of at least two members of the opposite sex. Each team entry costs $60 and teams must get their forms from either Coach Byleveld, Coach McClurg, or Coach Broyles to participate. These forms are due May 2nd.

KEY CLUB: The Kiwanis Club of Columbine Foundation $500 Community Service Award will recognize graduating Heritage High School seniors who have displayed exceptional dedication to service in the school, community or world by example or leadership. Please go to the counseling office for an application. The deadline is April 30.

EARTH WEEK/ECOLOGY CLUB: During Earth Week on April 19th we have a guest speaker coming to Ecology Club. His name is Zachary Zito and he is a former Naval Officer and current project engineer working on the sediment removal in Waterton Canyon. He will discuss what they are doing to Waterton Canyon and why. His presentation will be at 2:30 on Tuesday the 19th in room 325.

LATIN TEAM: The Heritage Latin Team did a great job at the Colorado Junior Classical League convention at Estes Park, April 7-8. We had the smallest team, with just five students, but won a total of 18 awards! Our grand winner was Erika Davidoff (who was also re-elected as the editor for the state), and all of our team won honors. Bravo and congratulations to Erika Davidoff, Abigail Bardales, Jackson Kilpatrick, Ashlen Lemon and Rachel Lukowicz! Great thanks also to Shannon Jones and Sabina Kilpatrick for their tremendous help as chaperones and organizers.
SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: The Denver Spring College Fair will be held on May 1st from 1-3:30 pm at Lakewood High School. Over 170 colleges and universities will represented and breakout sessions about narrowing your college choice, finding money for college, and college myths debunked will provided. JUNIORS AND PARENTS OF JUNIORS:
After the ACT….Watch a Documentary Movie in the HHS Theater!
What: “In 500 Words or Less” is a documentary film about applying to college. It takes the viewer on a journey with four very different high school seniors as they spend their last year of high school trying to figure out who they are and who they want to be. When: April 27: 11:30 a.m. -2:18 p.m. (11th grade students only—includes discussion with Counselors).
An evening viewing (for all students and their parents—movie only) will also take place that same day from 7:00-8:30p.m.!
Where: HHS Theater
Important: For the early viewing: Eleventh grade students must obtain verbal permission from parents and all teachers before attending the assembly. Juniors will sign a form during the assembly stating that verbal permission was granted from all teachers and parents to miss afternoon classes. We will be offering an evening viewing of the movie as well in case students want to remain in classes and/or denied permission. ATTENTION SENIORS!! We need your pictures for the senior slide show! Pictures can be from all four years of high school, middle school, elementary school, and before. Pictures can be of ANYTHING (friends, dances, sports, vacations, etc), but they must be school appropriate! Please put your pictures on a CD labeled with your name and turn it in to Ms. Brethauer’s mailbox in the Main Office no later than Wednesday, May 4th, 2011. Your pictures will not be returned to you so make sure to make a copy. See Ms. Brethauer and/or Mr. Hofschire with questions.

COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES SUMMER PROGRAM: The Summer Minority Engineering Program (SUMMET) at the Colorado School of Mines is a three week program where students live in the residence halls, take math, science and engineering related courses, and experience life as a college student would. The program is virtually free to the student as it is sponsored through our Minority Engineering Program. If you are interested go to http://mep.mines.edu or see your counselor for more details. The application deadline is April 29th.

POST GRAD NEWS:

*There are several options available to you if you feel the need to prepare for ACT, SAT, or PSAT tests. You can always go on the website for ACT free practice questions at www.actstudent.org or PSAT/SAT at www.collegeboard.com . If you would like professional test prep information, the Post Grad Center has several different options available.

*University of Kansas is offering an exciting summer program for future engineers. “Project Discovery”, a week-long resident camp for high school students, will explore different engineering disciplines through classes. Subjects include aerospace, electrical, computer science, civil and architectural, mechanical, biomedical, chemical and petroleum engineering. *Any High School Sophomore or Junior may apply for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, a 5-day conference held at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Co. this upcoming summer, July 17-22.
